Klaipėda University is a multidisciplinary educational institution, a national and Baltic Region leader in the field of marine sciences and studies integrated into international academic networks, fosterer of cultural heritage, and a centre for lifelong learning.
Over 60 scientific research laboratories, a research vessel-laboratory Mintis, a research-training sailboat Brabander, and a yacht Odyssey as integral part of the marine research infrastructure play an important role in the University research activities.
Since 2008, University has been implementing a national programme of the Marine Valley, an integrated science, studies, and business centre for the development of the Lithuanian maritime sector, and thus consistently consolidating its leadership in the area of maritime sciences and technologies. As the final stage of the programme the Marine Research Institute was opened, boasting a contemporary research infrastructure intended for the development of fundamental and applied science, competitive in an international market, and for the training of highly qualified specialists for the Lithuanian maritime sector.
