SUBMARINER Network at Federal Algae Assembly (Bundesalgenstammtisch)

SUBMARINER Network participated in the Federal Algae Assembly event that took place on 11-12.09.2019 in Kiel.
The annual "Bundesgengenstammtisch" is the German communication platform for all stakeholders involved in algae biotechnology from the science and industry. The 12th Federal Algae Assembly gathered German speaking scientists and industry players at the Botanical Institute of the Christian-Albrecht-University in Kiel. The event consisted of a two-days lecture program, accompanied by a posters’ and companies’ exhibition.
SUBMARINER Network presented together with the lead partner of the project ALLIANCE+, GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel the Baltic Blue Biotechnology accelerator programme within a poster session. Most of the discussed topics were related to the field of microalgae and in minor extent to macroalgae.
The approximately 120 participants of the event were not only able to intensively discuss current research results, but also to experience algae cultivation and use live in and around Kiel through several excursions offered during the event. Kiel has developed in recent years into a stronghold for algae biotechnology, and on the five field trips to companies and institutes in the region, guests were able to get an idea of the research and application along the value chain.
